Spring must be just around the corner when Raab return. Commonly known as broccoli raab (also spelled broccoli rabe). It is truly a vegetable with many names around the world. A few of the many names are raab, rapa, rapine, rappi, rappone, fall and spring raab, turnip broccoli, taitcat, Italian or Chinese broccoli, broccoli rape, broccoli de rabe, Italian turnip, and turnip broccoli. These hearty souls have overwintered here and are the first of our local produce to arrive, including the new purple sprouting Broccoli Raab.
Sautéed or steamed, Broccoli Raab are a wonderful local alternative to a winter of kale, and a good source of vitamins A, C, and K, as well as potassium, calcium, and iron.
Thanks as always,
