Red Dog, Midori, Satsumas, and the Start of the Holiday Season

Tuesday, October 24th

Veggie Talk this week:

I get excited when I see satsumas start rolling in, they are one of my favorite fruits, and they signal the start of the holiday season. The Satsuma is a seedless and easy-peeling citrus species, also known as satsuma mandarin, satsuma orange, and tangerine. It is of Chinese origin, but was introduced to the West via Japan.

Chanterelles are back this week at a significant drop in price. The Chanterelles are mycorrhizal fungi, meaning they form symbiotic associations with plants, making them very difficult to cultivate. Caution must be used when identifying chanterelles due to lookalikes, such as the Jack-O-Lantern species , which can make a person very ill.
