Why is produce so expensive right now?

Friday, Mar 24th

You may have noticed some shocking prices in produce department around the area of late. This is typically the leanest time of year for produce, and this is the worst we have seen in a while.

The floods in California have delayed planting and production, and this is will likely have a negative effect for the next 4 to 6 weeks, by then our local our local crops should be ready for planting.

On the bright side, the same rains have been beneficial for the citrus crops, bringing us sweeter and juicier fruit. The not to be missed citrus of the season are the Shasta Gold Mandarins from Buck Growers; these are outstanding.

Thanks as always,

Karen
